In this hands on, creative and exciting class of cast metal, learners carve original design into cuttlefish bone or a plaster mold to create negative space. That space is filled with lead-free pewter to create their original casting. Learners have the option to pour the metal into their own mold. Hand files and wire brushes are used to smooth and clean their castings and inks are optional. Learners can mount their sculptures on metal/wood/stone bases or affix jewelry/keychain hardware.
Sara Hanson is a public artist, a cast metal sculpture instructor and a current Upper Mississippi Academy parent/former New City School parent. Sara has been bringing opportunities to explore and create into communities for all ages and abilities for over ten years. She loves to fan the flames of personal experimentation and fancy creative curiosities.
